Exclusive solutions from Hospital Direct for Hospital theatres, promoting Safe moving and handling
Manually positioning patients ready for surgery in hospital theatres has historically required several healthcare professionals to work collaboratively together to reduce the risk of patient and staff injury.
That is why Hospital Direct has developed the ProTurn™ system which helps turn patients from lying supine position, into the prone position, safely and efficiently, and with only 4 members of staff.
Patients need to be proned for a variety of different surgical procedures including operations on areas like the spine, calf, or ankle.
Anaesthetised patients are transported into the surgical area and then need to be moved from the lying supine position where the face and torso is turned upwards to the prone position where the patient lies flat with back upwards.
The ProTurn™ system is a Supine to Prone/Prone to Supine method, designed to be carried out by just three practitioners, or a maxium of 4. The Starter Pack includes a set of slide sheets, a base mat and a unique combination of bolster and straps to position patients on the surgical table with the minimum of effort.
Exclusive products for Surgery and Theatres, where operations are in full demand
For patients who need surgery in the Lithotomy position, common in procedures involving the pelvis and lower abdomen such as Gynaecology, Hospital Direct’s GUS™ product allows easy re-positioning of the patient, for when head-down procedures up to 25 degrees are required. The GUS™ enables safe moving and handling of patients, reduced pressure sore risk, and the minimising risk of injury to staff.
Just place the GUS™ under the patient, slide them into position, lock the product, and tilt. Post-surgery, when you need to slide the patient back, just reverse the process.
Non-woven disposable covers are available for each patient, ensuring robust infection control.
For eye surgery, Hospital Direct’s Ophthalmic Glide and Lock is a great in-surgery one way slide sheet, and recovery aid that prevents patients from sliding down the operating table.
This full-length (head to toe) eye operation one way slide sheet is perfect for health professionals who position patients for eye operations like cataract surgery.
Developed in conjunction with an acclaimed eye surgeon, the Ophthalmic Glide and Lock enables two staff members to accurately move a person into the correct position for ophthalmic surgery and, post-op, the patient can sit up without the risk of sliding down, which is ideal for stroke patient recovery.
For help with infection control when carrying out eye surgery, disposable covers are available for the Ophthalmic Glide and Lock. You just velcro a new one onto the product for each new patient. The whole system can also be laundered.
Strong, robust and waterproof, the disposable covers prevent any fluids penetrating through to the Glide and Lock. Once surgery and recovery is complete, the covers can be peeled off and disposed of.
