Body Bags / Mortuary Handling
Hospital Direct’s Mortuary Fridge Band allows mortuary technicians to move the deceased in body bags and secure their arms and legs in fridge trays.
Fitting the arms and legs of the bariatric deceased in fridge trays has long caused problems for mortuary technicians, as limbs can expand over the sides of these trays. To this end, staff have had to develop their own solutions, which haven’t always been dignified. Until now, there has been a definite need for a product that solves the problem while ensuring the dignity of the deceased.
Hospital Direct has now developed this solution. The Mortuary Fridge Band is a unique, multi-adjustable product that enables mortuary staff to carefully secure the arms or legs of medium-to-large deceased patients within their body bags and fridge trays. Mortuary technicians can then safely transfer patients in and out of their fridge compartments, knowing that the risk of body contact around the fridge during this manoeuvre has been dramatically reduced.
Mortuary Fridge Bands are quick and easy to use as they slide directly under body bags or wrapped bodies to reduce the risk of poor handling and over-reaching. Technicians can also use multiple bands if necessary. This specialist band is 200mm wide and adjustable in length so that it can fit all deceased. It has a two-point adjustable buckle system, which allows adjustment from small to bariatric. For example, mortuary technicians can close the band up to 510mm around smaller patients and open it out to 760mm for larger patients.
We manufacture the bands in our Shropshire premises, using specially chosen laminated materials, strong nylon webbing and large plastic buckles to enable easy adjustment.
