What is Prost™?
Providing a controlled and clinically sound system for turning bodies in and out of the prone / supine position for improved ventilated care.
A few years ago healthcare professionals in the UK identified that ventilated patients benefit enormously from increased moving. Interestingly, it was also discovered that their oxygen levels improved while they were in the prone position.
Since then, UK policy has changed and these patients are now moved from prone to supine, or supine to prone every two hours. But more frequent repositioning puts additional strain on staff – both physically and in terms of their workload. Plus risk of musculoskeletal injury significantly increases.
This is why we developed the PROST™ System.
Working with an ICU department within a major UK trust, we developed a system for turning ventilated or heavily sedated patients;
- safely & securely
- within the same bed
- while maintaining access to the airway
- under full control
- and with minimum disturbance to the patient
We believe our PROST™ system is the only system in the world that addresses
all of the clinical needs for turning ICU patients, including;
NOT requiring a log roll
The slippery material on the sheets provides a system which can be easily inserted and removed with minimal disturbance to the patient; whilst increasing the safety of staff who are required to insert the system and manoeuvre the client.
Supports the full body
PROST™ is a full-length body turning system which covers the whole body including lower limbs. This provides the reassurance of a fully controlled turn for ICU professionals.
Allows easy repositioning
The slippery material on the sheets mean that not only are they be easily inserted under the patient, but they also allow staff to perform effortless repositioning post-turn if required.
Flexibility
With handles the length of the purple Prost™ sheet, different sizes of patient can be accommodated. In addition users have the reassurance of an impressive 560KG / 88 Stone SWL on the straps, and the sheets are an incredible 400kg.
Packs are also available in small and large for extreme sizes and where a smaller or larger purple sheet may be preferred.
Comfort
Eradicating the need for a log roll reduces the risk of skin and nerve damage to almost zero.
In addition, the thin sheets do not compromise the integrity of a pressure relieving mattress therefore protecting the care of the person requiring short or long-term care. This in-turn helps Tissue Viability personnel to continue their support.
Clear airway
The patient is easily slid up the bed prior to the turn so their head is controlled free of the mattress during the move. This ensures a specialist has clear and easy access to their airway throughout the manoeuvre, spinal alignment is maintained, and risks such as ventilator induced pneumonia, which are associated with interference with the airway of ventilated patients, are reduced.
